Aldi Asiatic Lilies

I took a chance this year and purchased some bulbs from Aldi, one of them was “Black Out” which is an Asiatic Lily, I got six bulbs that looked like they were very fresh and healthy. Planted them in a couple of my wine barrels where I have my Avocado trees growing and my first one just bloomed today. It is such a gorgeous deep red color. I’ve never grown them before so this is a first for me. I’m hoping the bulbs multiply and I can keep them blooming year after year. I also got a Peony and Dahlia bulb, one of them is coming up (not sure which one though). It is just about to bloom, as soon as it does I’ll post it here.31950279_10156297594694804_5565805534285660160_n

Front Entrance

This is the before photo of what the entrance looked like. The front was a blue dirty paint and the path was dirty but just plain cement. I had a couple of plants mixed in but they were overgrown and I wanted to add more color.

Here is the finished entrance. I painted a dark brown undercoat then made a lime green stripe around the edge. Lastly I used two stencils to create the pattern and used a turquoise paint. Added a couple of tropical plants, a few lights and walla….an entrance I can be proud of.

DIY Patio Lounge

After months and months of trying to look for an L-shaped sectional in my price range and that would stand up to my crazy family of kids and cats and dogs, I finally found some DIY plans from Ana White’s website for the Weatherly Sofa. It looked simple enough although I had never built more than shelves in our closet however I love DIY and making things so I figured why not. 20131103_175049 Please forgive the rest of the Lanai as I still have a lot of work to do out here to make it my tropical oasis. I hung curtains up and rescreened the whole lanai. I have changed out the carpet just recently but haven’t taken another photo yet, I still need to make a coffee table. This is a solid piece of furniture, it takes two people to just move one section (it comes apart in two).

Starting Out

I’ve always wanted to start my own blog, I love DIY, creating new recipes, gardening and discovering new places to travel to. This blog will help me keep track of my adventures, failures and the day to day craziness that happens in life.
